Weekly Learning Experiences
Senior Science Lab Sessions
Our senior students engage in weekly hands-on laboratory sessions, conducting real scientific experiments in a professional setting. From the fireproof-hand experiment to dramatic reaction eruptions, learners explore chemistry and biology with proper equipment, safety protocols, and plenty of wonder — building practical skills that bridge classroom theory with real-world scientific practice.

Closing Day & Graduation 2026
We closed the term in true Jasiri style — graduation caps and kente tassels, proud families, and the sweet sound of live music. Celebrated guitarist Fancy Fingers joined us to serenade our graduates as they marked this beautiful milestone, honoring every learner who grew, dared and shone this term in the spirit of Utu, Ubuntu, and Uvumbuzi.
Alpha Wins Best Emerging Filmmaker in London
Our very own Alpha wrote, filmed and edited his own short film — a personal story told entirely in his own voice — and took it to the international stage. Screened at the South Coast Film Festival in London, it earned him the festival's Best Emerging Filmmaker 2026 award. In his mum's words: “Thank you, Jasiri, for giving my son a place to express without limitations.” This is what creativity without limits looks like.
Coach Sasha Makes Kenyan Chess History
Our Jasiri Chess Coach, Sasha Mongeli, won bronze at the 2026 African Individual Chess Championship in Botswana — becoming the first Kenyan ever to medal at the continental individual championship, and earning the Women International Master (WIM) title, a first for any Kenyan woman. Seeded 17th, she finished behind only two Egyptian Women's Grandmasters — Kenya's best-ever result at this championship in over 50 years.
Ocean Sole Educational Trip
During the midterm half-term break (May 25–29), our learners visited Ocean Sole — the Kenyan initiative turning discarded flip-flops from the ocean into vibrant art. A trip that tells our whole story: creativity, sustainability, and turning challenges into beautiful possibilities.
Brookhurst International Open Chess Championship
Team Jasiri Simbaz represented the school at the Brookhurst International Open Chess Championship — a Swiss-system, six-round tournament just 300 metres from our campus. Our young players competed round after round with focus and sportsmanship, and returned with their participation certificates. Chess sharpens patience, strategy and self-belief — qualities our players are carrying far beyond the board.
Bien of Sauti Sol Visits Jasiri
A month to remember began with a legend. Bien (Alusa Baraza) of Sauti Sol visited Jasiri Mugumo, spending time with our learners and celebrating the creativity and culture at the heart of the school. One visit from an icon put Jasiri in front of an audience far beyond its catchment — and set the whole month alight.
From Taekwondo to the Unified Way
Our young martial artists stepped up from Taekwondo to Tong-Il-Moo-Do — a unified discipline blending Taekwondo, Karate, Muay Thai, Jiu-jitsu and Hapkido. The Jasiri team carries the Kenyan flag with pride, and brings the medals home. Strong body, sharp mind, courageous spirit.
The Jasiri Simbas Football Kit Launch
May launched the Jasiri Simbas football kit — bold red and black with a proud dashiki-inspired pattern. More than a jersey, it's the identity of a growing team and the pride of a school building its own footballing future.
Celebrating Ms. Mine, Our Facilitator
Behind every thriving learner is a dedicated facilitator. We celebrate Ms. Mine, whose warmth, creativity and commitment helped our children feel seen, safe and inspired every single day. In late May 2026, we sadly said goodbye to Ms. Mine, who passed on — but her spirit remains woven into the heart of Jasiri. We hold her memory with love and gratitude, and honour the light she brought to our community. Rest well, dear teacher.
1st Edition — Jasiri Mugumo Taekwondo Tournament
Jasiri hosted its inaugural Taekwondo tournament — bringing the Jasiri fire to the mat. Our young athletes competed with discipline and courage, and were later honoured with their official certificates at the Closing Day celebration.
Mlango Farm Educational Trip
An educational trip to Mlango Farm where students learned about sustainable farming practices, animal care, and agricultural innovation. This hands-on experience connected our learners with nature and taught valuable lessons about food systems and environmental stewardship.
Celebrating Judy Oloo
A heartfelt celebration of the life and times of Judy Oloo, honoring her contributions, spirit, and lasting impact on our community. This gathering brought together students, facilitators, and community members to share memories and celebrate a remarkable life.
Graduation Ceremony 2025
A momentous celebration as our learners completed their journey at Jasiri Mugumo. The ceremony honored their growth, achievements, and the unique paths each graduate will take forward, embodying the spirit of Utu, Ubuntu, and Uvumbuzi.
African Heritage House Trip
Students explored the magnificent African Heritage House, immersing themselves in Pan-African art, architecture, and culture. This transformative experience deepened their understanding of African heritage, artistic expression, and the beauty of diverse African traditions.
Museum of Illusions Visit
A mind-bending educational trip to the Museum of Illusions where students explored perception, science, and art through interactive exhibits. This visit sparked curiosity about how our brains process visual information and the science behind optical illusions.
Annual Tree Planting 2025
Our annual tradition continues as students plant indigenous trees on campus, learning about environmental stewardship, biodiversity, and climate action. Each tree planted represents our commitment to a greener future and our connection to the land.
Kereita Forest Adventure
An exhilarating outdoor education experience at Kereita Forest where students engaged in zip-lining, tree planting, and environmental conservation activities. This adventure combined physical challenge with ecological learning, fostering courage, teamwork, and environmental consciousness.
National Museums Visit
Students explored Kenya's rich natural and cultural heritage at the National Museums. From ancient fossils to contemporary art, this field trip brought history to life and deepened our learners' connection to their heritage and the story of human evolution in East Africa.
Christmas Community Giveaway
Students organized and participated in a community giving initiative, embodying the spirit of Ubuntu by sharing with those in need during the holiday season. This service project taught lessons about compassion, generosity, and community responsibility.
Closing Day Event
Our term closing ceremony celebrated student achievements and set intentions for growth ahead. The event brought together students, families, and community members in true Ubuntu spirit.
She Who Will Not Be Silenced: Ayenka
Students rehearsed and performed this powerful original Kenyan play exploring themes of voice, courage, and standing up for what is right. Through drama and movement, learners embodied the spirit of Ayenka, learning that art is activism and every voice matters.
Sir Nare Animation Studio Visit
Students visited Sir Nare Animation Studio where they learned about African animation, storytelling through film, and the technical skills behind bringing stories to life. This experience inspired our young creators to see themselves as future storytellers and animators.
Bake Sale & Make Your Own Pizza for Usikimye
Students organized a creative fundraising event combining a bake sale with a make-your-own-pizza activity. All proceeds supported Usikimye, a mental health organization. This student-led initiative demonstrated entrepreneurship, empathy, and community care in action.
Annual Tree Planting 2024
Continuing our cherished tradition, students planted indigenous trees as part of our ongoing environmental stewardship program. This hands-on activity reinforced lessons about climate action, biodiversity, and our responsibility to protect the Earth for future generations.
Afrocentric Science Fair
A groundbreaking science fair that centered African innovations, indigenous knowledge, and student-led STEM projects. Learners presented experiments and inventions that addressed real community challenges, proving that science and African heritage are beautifully intertwined.

A student-organized fundraising event supporting Usikimye, demonstrating our commitment to mental health advocacy and community care. This initiative empowered learners to take action on causes they care about.
Mental Health Expo March 2024
Jasiri Mugumo students participated in a mental health awareness expo, showcasing projects and engaging with experts about emotional wellness, mindfulness, and breaking stigma around mental health in African communities.
Ocean Sole Kenya Visit
A transformative visit to Ocean Sole where students learned how discarded flip-flops from beaches are transformed into colorful art. This experience taught powerful lessons about environmental conservation, circular economy, creativity, and turning waste into wonder.
Closing Day with Guest Lydia
A special closing day ceremony featuring guest speaker Lydia, who shared inspiring stories and wisdom with our students. The event celebrated the term's achievements and encouraged learners to carry forward the values of Ubuntu and continuous growth.
Dress to Address Fundraiser
A vibrant celebration of creativity and social impact! Students showcased talents through recycled arts, crafts, face painting, and theatrical performances. This fundraiser combined artistic expression with community service - all proceeds went to Usikimye, demonstrating how creativity can drive social change.
Closing Day with Chief Nyamweya
End of term celebration with guest speaker Chief Nyamweya, visual artist, storyteller, and co-founder of Freehand Studios - an African animation and social impact studio. His inspiring talk explored ecology, education, technology, and politics, opening students' minds to creative possibilities.
Bake Sale & Make Your Own Pizza
Student-led entrepreneurship meets social impact! Learners organized bake sales and pizza-making sessions, applying math, business skills, and community engagement in real contexts. From measuring ingredients to managing transactions, students learned practical life skills. All proceeds went to Usikimye, fighting to end gender-based violence.
Annual Tree Planting 2023
Another year of environmental action as students planted indigenous trees, continuing our tradition of caring for the Earth. These annual tree planting ceremonies have become a beloved ritual that connects each cohort to our green mission.
METIS Numeracy Event
Students participated in the METIS Numeracy event, showcasing innovative approaches to mathematics education and problem-solving. This experience highlighted the importance of numeracy skills and creative mathematical thinking.
Tech Mentorship with Industry Leaders
Technology professionals visited our school to mentor students in coding, robotics, and digital innovation. These mentorship sessions connected our learners with role models in STEM fields and opened their eyes to career possibilities in technology.
ReimaginED Summit Showcase
Director Mukuria represented Jasiri Mugumo School at the prestigious ReimaginED Summit, showcasing our innovative Afrocentric education model as one of 30 selected education innovations from around the world. This recognition validated our unique approach to learning.
Christmas Community Giveaway
A community goodwill initiative encouraging collection and sharing of non-perishable food and clothes, embodying Ubuntu values of caring for others. The event featured a raffle with fantastic prizes, with all proceeds going to Usikimye - an NGO advocating to end gender-based violence.
Annual Tree Planting 2022
The beginning of our annual tree planting tradition! Students learned about indigenous trees, environmental conservation, and took their first steps as environmental stewards by planting trees that will grow alongside them.
